Here Goes Nothing...

So, I have finally decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon. We recently cancelled our cable and of course I have found myself with a lot more free time in the evenings and on the weekends. I am loving it!! I feel so much more productive! With all of this free time I have been coming up with new things I want to do such as painting, gardening, and trying new recipes. The first thing I am starting with is a vegetable garden. This task is very foreign to me and I am actually shocked that I am going to give it a try...in the past I have been known to have a "black thumb" when it comes to plants. My dear friend, Stacey, has been walking me through the whole gardening process. Honestly, I did not even know where to start. I asked her every question including, "Is there a difference between potting soil and composting soil?" Duh!!! So, this weekend I started my gardening off by weeding our front and back yard. It was actually very relaxing and rewarding. Then I picked my spot to do my vegetbale garden because it is the spot that gets the most sun. I got ready to prepare my dirt and realized it was the dreaded adobe! I immediately felt so discouraged and had no idea what to do next. My sweet husband was right there to encourage me and help me figure out how to solve the problem. I am thankful that he is so supportive and wanted to help me with it. He also has been a good source of knowledge about how to plant things. So anyway, I ran to OSH to pick up a hand tiller and a lot more composting soil. I spent the rest of the afternoon tilling the adobe and then mixing it with the soil. It was quite the workout tilling all of that adobe. I am going to spend the next couple of days tilling and mixing the adobe and the soil together so that it will (hopefully) make a good home for my desired vegetables. I am fully aware that this gardening journey may end in complete failure this first try since I know I have a lot to learn about the whole process (and a black thumb). However, I am super excited to see how it turns out! I am just happy to be doing something better with my time then sitting on the couch and watching Grey's Anatomy. :)
